South African wine isn’t frequently described as “Burgundian,” but here at the edge of the world, far from the desert-like inland regions, there are wines that unquestionably deserve the comparison. Some of South Africa’s finest sources for Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir are planted in vineyards here in the appellations of Walker Bay, Elgin, and Cape Agulhas (South Africa’s southern tip).
